We’re delighted to share that the development of Goonvean Group’s pioneering Engineering Centre of Excellence is well underway. In fact, work at Junction 28 (AKA ‘J28’) is nearing completion.
The Engineering Centre of Excellence
Based in Cullompton, Devon, the custom-built facility will be fully operational by mid-summer 2025. The impressive premises will be home to Goonvean Fibres, Goonvean Core Engineering, NDE and UK LED Lighting while also supporting the operation of Atwell Packaging.
Development began on the Cullompton site in 2018, when the first two units were built on the brown field site. The original plans have now been brought to life through the efforts of Devon Contractors under the supervision and direction of Tom Clarke. Buildings 1 and 2 will soon be joined by several more…
Building 3
Building 3 will act as a dedicated warehouse operation, supporting the stock holding of Goonvean Fibres. There will also be provision of storage for ad hoc Goonvean Group company needs.
The first floor will house the Goonvean Group team members, giving back much-needed office space to our flourishing Engineered segment.
Building 4
Building 4 will house a central workshop facility. It will serve as dedicated support for Goonvean Core Engineering, as well as offering additional capability for all Goonvean Group companies for their engineering needs.
We are also planning to look at commercialising this operation to external markets – so watch this space.
Building 5
There are some exciting, innovative plans in the pipeline for Building 5, which we will be able to share very soon …
Our hopes for J28
When completed, the J28 site will become our own unique Engineering Centre of Excellence. It will accelerate our focus on apprentice intake and cross-training engineering teams, providing a place of shared learning and opportunities. It will also cement our Engineered segment and its core capabilities.
We also anticipate that the development of the Centre will elevate Goonvean Group’s position within the South West region. The site will help drive further investment opportunities in Research and Development, establishing the Engineering Centre of Excellence site as the ‘go-to’ destination for engineering solutions.
An opening ceremony is being planned for the summer – it promises to be a very exciting and momentous day for Goonvean Group.
Matthew Gazzard, Managing Director of Goonvean Group, commented; “The incredible infrastructure at J28 will help to establish a unique Engineering Centre of Excellence for the Goonvean Group. The development represents our intent to become an ‘Engineering Power House’ in the South West, working with all our established partners to create a hub known for true engineering innovation.”
